A neighbourhood close to our hearts — and one whose greatest luxury is the natural space that surrounds it.
The Queensway Village is a community we have grown up alongside as West Toronto locals, watching it grow while keeping the respect — shared by planners and residents alike — for the natural amenities at its edges. Whether you live an active life or simply like to get outside now and then, the Queensway is a wonderful place to do it. Here is our local take on the best places to explore the outdoors.
The Humber River
The Humber River marks the neighbourhood's eastern border and is one of the most beloved natural features in all of west Toronto. Meeting Lake Ontario at its mouth, the river runs roughly 100 kilometres north, and the southern stretch alongside the Queensway holds some of its most appealing twists and turns. Whether you are paddling the calmer sections by kayak or canoe or walking its seemingly endless riverside trails, there is room here for everyone to enjoy it their own way.
Mimico Creek
Outlining the western edge is another waterway, Mimico Creek. Gentler and shorter than the Humber, it is still a picturesque stream that winds north from Lake Ontario over roughly 30 kilometres. With multiple entry points and footpaths along its length, the creek is a fine spot for a short stroll or a longer wander.
The Humber Bay Shores
To the south, the neighbourhood is bordered by the shoreline of Lake Ontario — specifically the stretch known as the Humber Bay Shores. Marine Parade Drive, the road that runs along the water, gathers an appealing mix of cafés, restaurants and shops, while the shoreline itself is rich with parks and green space. Humber Bay Shores Park, Humber Bay Park East, the Humber Bay Butterfly Habitat, Jean Augustine Park and the Sheldon Lookout all sit within close reach of one another, making this a favourite gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
South Humber Park
A few blocks north of the Humber Bay Shores, South Humber Park is another widely loved green space. Branching off the Humber River, it is surprisingly large for its setting; its most-used amenities include the Humber recreational trail and the small river running parallel to it. From here, walkers and cyclists can connect to Toronto's Martin Goodman and Waterfront trails, making the park a tranquil base for a picnic, a long ride, or an evening of stargazing.
